Pa’ia’s 16th Annual Beachfest Bodyboard and Surf Competition was last Saturday and what a great day for it! North shore coastline was booming with great waves and beautiful sunshine for this fun event. Athletes of all ages showed off their skills, tricks and barrel-riding abilities. The North Pacific Humpback Whale is making its annual appearance in our beautiful clear blue waters. Although technically these marvels are from these parts, they migrate between here and Alaska. Last night I announced that before dinner we should go take a walk on the beach and appreciate what it is about Maui that brings us to live here.
To each of us that meant something different. Tay took off along the waves, jumping and splashing in the ocean’s foam. Our visiting friend tied her dress up high enough to allow her to enjoy the feel of the wet sand between her toes. Penny went directly to the tide pools to look for beautiful tiny creatures. We have to admit that we love our lifeguards on the Kamaole Beaches in Maui’s South Side.They’re not only polite, but also responsive and in great physical condition.
Maui ensures that their lifeguards remain both physically and mentally in shape and as regular beach-goers, we are thankful for this!!
Just this morning a tourist called 9-1-1 to report a swimmer that was “drowning” on Kamaole Beach II.
Withing minutes the lifeguards were out in the water searching where they thought the swimmer went under.
