We had a great time working with the instructors of Hawaiian Paddle Sports along with the staff from the Ambassadors of the Environment Program at the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua yesterday. We spend most of our time creating memorable Maui family photography and Maui wedding photography and being asked to capture a Hawaiian Blessing Ceremony is always a real honor for us. Mahalo nui loa!
It was a celebration of the maiden voyage of the Ka Manu o Honokahua and as is customary in the Hawaiian Islands, began with a blessing. We encircled the boat as the prayer was made and the lei removed.
E ho’omaika’i i keia wa’a me ke aloha, me ka mana, me ka pono.
(“May this boat be blessed with love, power, and success”) Hawaiian Paddle Sports showed ceremonial synergy as they shoved off into the Pacific Ocean. Many enthusiastic observers watched as they left the beach in front of the Ritz Carlton. What an amazing afternoon for a launch! The sprinkles stopped, the clouds parted slightly and the breeze was just perfect for the first paddling adventure of the new Ambassador of the Environment canoe.
